REPC Releases Radiation Emergency Reference Sheet
BARNSTABLE, MA, September 16, 2014 – At its monthly meeting on Wednesday September 3, 2014, the Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee (BCREPC) approved the release of a two-page document entitled Radiation Emergency Reference Sheet. The document outlines the steps Cape Cod residents and visitors should take in the unlikely event of a radiation emergency at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station (PNPS) in Plymouth, MA.
The document arose from community requests for guidance from the BCREPC as to the best course of action for residents and visitors in the unlikely event of a radiation emergency at the PNPS. As the document states, “It is unwise and potentially dangerous to attempt to drive off Cape in the early hours of a serious radiological accident.”
The Radiation Emergency Reference Sheet outlines best practices for families, seniors, those with access and functional needs, and those at work. It also lists the various emergency alert channels that are available.
The BCREPC invites residents, visitors, businesses and commercial interests, towns, public safety agencies, chambers of commerce, tribal authorities, non-governmental organizations, faith communities, and others to download and distribute the Radiation Emergency Reference Sheet available at www.bcrepc.org/prepare.
