Barnstable County Human Rights Advisory Commission Seeks New Commissioner and Alternate Commissioners

BCHRAC positions are vital in promoting and advancing human rights on Cape Cod.

July 17, 2024 (Barnstable, MA) – The Barnstable County Human Rights Advisory Commission (BCHRAC) is seeking applications to fill three vacancies (one member and two alternates). Comprised of nine commissioners appointed by the Board of Regional Commissioners, the BCHRAC promotes equality and human rights throughout the County. Terms are for three years and begin on October 1, 2024.

Human Rights Advisory Commissioners are expected to attend monthly meetings, serve on an ad hoc committee, and provide support to the staff in promoting human rights through community education and school-based activities.

Interested candidates must be permanent residents of Barnstable County. People with varied language skills and diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. Please submit a letter of interest and resume/bio by email to leslie.dominguez-santos@capecod.gov or via mail to the Barnstable County Human Rights Advisory Commission, Candidate Application, P.O. Box 427, Barnstable, MA 02630 before August 19, 2024. Interviews will be held at the beginning of September.

The BCHRAC also has vacancies for several liaison positions. Liaisons serve at the pleasure of their governing body (town or tribe governing board). Liaisons ensure that every town and tribe’s voice for human rights is represented. However, liaisons are not voting members of the BCHRAC. Open liaison seats include Eastham, Harwich, Mashpee Wampanoag, Truro, and Wellfleet. Interested candidates should consult their town/tribe boards and speak with Ms. Dominguez-Santos.
