County Assembly of Delegates Elects New Leadership

January 3, 2025 (Barnstable, MA) – The Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates elected Chatham Delegate Randi Potash as its new Speaker and Falmouth Delegate Daniel Gessen as Deputy Speaker during it reorganization meeting held on January 2.

Potash moves up after serving as Deputy Speaker last term and succeeds outgoing Speaker, former Barnstable Delegate Patrick Princi who declined to run for re-election.

“I am honored to lead the Assembly as we continue to defend our charter, appropriate County funds, provide a regional forum, while always aiming to do the next right thing for Cape Codders,” said Potash.

Speaker Potash, a criminal defense attorney and mediator has represented Chatham in the Assembly since 2019 and currently serves as Chair of the town’s Zoning Board of Appeals.

Deputy Speaker Gessen recently returned to the Cape after a year leading an infantry platoon of the Massachusetts Army National Guard deployed in the Middle East, while also representing Falmouth in the Assembly.

“I look forward to the Assembly’s  continuing work to find solutions to our infrastructure, wastewater, and climate change issues while also addressing the housing crisis” said Deputy Speaker Gessen.

The Assembly of Delegates appropriated over $32 million in the last fiscal year to provide critical regional services to the Cape’s residents.

Joining the Assembly this session are newly elected: Barnstable Delegate Frank Frederickson, a retired Yarmouth Police Chief; Bourne Delegate Wayne Sampson, a former Shrewsbury Police Chief and Executive Director of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association; and Brewster Delegate Karl Fryzel, a retired attorney and partner at Locke Lord LLP
