The US Environmental Protection Agency offers a variety of education/outreach materials as part of it’s SepticSmart campaign to spread the word about proper care and maintenance of septic systems. This is especially important on Cape Cod, where over 90% of homes use septic systems for wastewater disposal.
Septic systems that are not properly maintained can malfunction and leak harmful nutrients into our groundwater, ponds, and coastal embayments. So…do your part…be SepticSmart! Understanding what happens to all of the water we use in our houses is essential to keeping everything flowing properly! Failing to do so can be costly and harmful to the environment.
