NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING
Former Barnstable County Fire Training Academy Site 155 South Flint Rock Road Barnstable, MA Release Tracking Number 4-26179.
A release of oil and/or hazardous materials has occurred at this location, which is a disposal site as defined by M.G.L. c. 21E, § 2 and the Massachusetts Contingency Plan, 310 CMR 40.0000 (the MCP). This disposal site has been designated a Public Involvement Plan site, in accordance with M.G.L. c. 21E §14(a) and 310 CMR 40.1404. In response to the request from local petitioners in January 2019, Barnstable County designated the Site as a Public Involvement Plan site. In June 2019, the Public Involvement Plan (PIP) for the site was finalized.
Barnstable County and its consultants and Licensed Site Professional are conducting the Phase II Comprehensive Site Assessment (the Phase II CSA) under the MCP. The Phase II CSA is being conducted in accordance with the final Phase II CSA Scope of Work submitted to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) on March 22, 2022. The final Phase II CSA Scope of Work was the subject of a notice of the submittal to the public on March 23, 2022. Electronic copies of the Phase II Comprehensive Site Assessment Scope of Work were attached to the electronic notices. The final Phase II CSA Scope of Work was presented at a Public Meeting conducted virtually on June 9, 2022.
A virtual public meeting will be held on April 13, 2023 at 5:00 PM to update the public on the status of the Phase II CSA work and the findings to date. Background information on the disposal site and the history of the Former Fire Training Academy will be presented. The public meeting will also describe the on-going monitoring of the site and the groundwater pumping and treatment at the site.
